Paypal is driving me nuts!

January 14th, 2011 at 09:48 pm

Grrr! I haven't logged onto Paypal in ages. When I try to sign on, it asks me 2 security questions to verify my identity. In one case, they give me the last 4 digits of my checking account number, and ask me to verify the entire account. In the second case, they give me the last 4 digits of my cc, and ask me to verify the entire account. Problem is, that credit card was lost/account closed long ago, and I no longer have the card on me. (I could probably go digging through old files, which looks like what I'll need to do, but I'm trying to avoid it).

Anyway, I've tried every "contact us" option on the site and they either 1) make me answer the security questions before I can get any farther (!) or 2) give me the automated chat agent, who can only ask me basic questions. Can't get a phone number or email address either. SO Frustrated!

In other news, I received a $3 Rite Aid rebate from December. I'll deposit that and transfer it to the HELOC. Other than that, tonight is all about balancing my checkbook and paying the mid-month bills...

I have never had a PayPal account. A decade or so ago, my now ex-husband sold some stuff on EBay. His customers all paid, but PayPal refused to send him the money. He was not able to log on to his account, and he called the number (it was a long distance call) and they would not help. A year or so later, PayPal sent him a check for $50 with no explanation of any kind. He had several hundred dollars in his account, which PayPal allegedly returned to the individual customers.

I know PayPal accounts are very common, so I assume most people have no trouble. I am not impressed and have no wish to open one.

Creditcardfree, you ROCK! I just called the number and the very nice agent promptly restored my account. I logged on and got rid of the old credit card numbers. Thanks SO much!

Paypal can be frustrating, no doubt about it. I've had various usage issues with them, but never anything with them not paying out money (thankfully). I would say don't leave any large balance with them, get it out when you can and just leave a credit card to fund any purchases. If you have any issue with Paypal, let the creditcard company deal with them, they should have better luck. In fact I just pulled out the balance I had with them this week, that was probably a good idea.
