Hunger Games craze

March 24th, 2012 at 12:42 am

I took the kids to Barnes & Noble yesterday to get them some books, and picked up Hunger Games for myself. I've been getting sucked in by all of the hype. DD, who is 13, hasn't yet read the book but wants to see the movie. She'll read the book after I'm done with it.

In other news, I spent the day doing things that I wanted to do rather than what I planned to do. I balanced my checkbooks, did my finances, and scoped out some potential sales to Secondspin .com, which I hope to finalize tonight. What I didn't do was clean my house and plan the menu for tomorrow night (we're having friends over for dinner). Fortunately the house is in decent shape, so it won't take much to clean, and I have a few ideas for the menu. Perhaps I'll square that away later tonight. Procrastination...it should be my middle name.

I had all of the windows open today. What a gorgeous week we've had - mid 70s in the middle of March. Who would've thought? I haven't used the heat or ac for at least a week. I could get used to this...

I have read two of the books. Dark story line, but so well written- a page turner for sure! Just saw the movie tonight and I really enjoyed it. I liked the book better, but I still liked the movie. Enjoy!!

I loved reading the Hunger Games. Had an "authentinc" HG dinner with gf's before we went to see the movie at the midnight premiere. The movie wasn't as good as the book, but the entire experience that evening spent with friends was so much fun!

HG is available on Amazon for $5.01 plus shipping (unless you have prime.) At our bookfair we sold out of Catching Fire and Mockingjay, but we had a few copies left of HG (of course they sent 7 of HG and only 3 each of the others.)

I really enjoyed the book, and look forward to letting my daughter read it in a couple of years (she's only 6). I think that it's almost impossible to capture the essence of a good book in a movie, and it usually leads to disappointment for me. When "Ender's Game" comes out in the coming year I am sure that I will be completely dissatisfied. Wink Still, I suppose it's nice for the author when a story has some insurance of being made into a motion picture!

Well ... a coworker talked me into seeing the movie today. I did not want to see it - had absolutely no interest. I haven't read the books ... now that I've seen the movie, I may just have to read the books! I've been sucked in ...
