New "Cash" Mindset

February 18th, 2012 at 02:28 pm

Since January, I've been trying to use cash/debit card for most things, and only paying on my credit card if I needed to. This is 180 degrees different from what I used to do, which was charge everything (and pay it off at the end of the month).

I mentioned that I haven't been as focused on my finances this month because I've been buried at work. I took a look at my checking account mid-month and thought, "wow, why is my balance SO LOW? How am I going to pay the credit card bills at month end?!" Then I remembered I won't have any, so I'm actually okay. Smile Just a small moment of panic.

My account at the credit union is up and running. I made my first direct deposit there on 2/15. I'm going to take some time today setting up a few bill payments and assuming it works as expected, I'm going to start transferring all of the payments from BOA to the credit union. My goal is to close out BOA by the end of March. That has to be the worst bank EVER!

Other than that, just getting caught up this weekend and cleaning house...

As you mentioned, this is a new mindset for your financial thinking, and it will take a while for this to lead into your new reality! It's great, though, because it is a step in the right direction of financial progress, and it will offer you insurance of better money management overall. Nice going!

LOL at your moment of panic. I imagine I will go through that myself when I finally get the credit cards paid off.

Although Bank of America has been pretty good to me credit card-wise, we do call it "Spank of America" or "Wank of America" over here. I know BOA sucks because they attempted to foreclose on my uncle in FL, who owned his house for 17 years at the point they tried to foreclose probably because he refi'd with Countrywide. No paid-in-full or mortgaged-elsewhere property in the US is safe from BOA making fake paperwork to claim it for themselves.
