Late Payment faux pas

April 30th, 2011 at 01:51 am

Can someone please tell me where my time goes? How is it that 1/3 of the year is over, and I remember New Year's Eve as if it was yesterday? I feel like March and April came and went in the blink of an eye.

The financial repurcussion of losing track of time: I missed the deadline for my credit card payment. It was due on 4/28 and I just paid it today. This is super frustrating because I have no excuse beyond my own disorganization. And I can't even call up and have them take pity on me, because I did the same thing at the end of last year when I completely stopped tracking my spending. The finance charges shouldn't be too bad because I paid it in full today, but I'm sure the late payment fee is in the neighborhood of $35. An expensive lesson in organization...

Wow, that's a bummer.

Needless to say, I'll spend some part of the weekend paying the rest of the month-end bills...

I'd give them a call anyway. Couldn't hurt. Smile

Could you set up a re-occuring reminder for a few days ahead in your email or something like that?

I agree, the weeks and months are flying by, we've already used up the 1st quarter of 2011 and time once gone is gone forever.

Seconding FrugalT's recommendation that you call and plead for no fee/no interest. Explain you will need to switch to another card if they do not see you as an excellent client, after all they collect 4% or more from every vendor for every purchase you make.

Why don't you set up an automatic payment every month for at least the minimum balance? I had this happen to me a couple of times many years back and just decided then to do electronic fund transfers on all of my bills. Everyone still sends me an e-statement. You can still get paper bills too if you want. This is so easy to do and guarantees you never forget to pay on time.
