Where have all the old-timers gone?

July 10th, 2007 at 11:15 pm

It's been forever since I've blogged. Looking over my last few posts, each of them start that way. I'm swamped, but I've been swamped for as long as I've had kids, so that can't be it. I guess I just haven't been focusing so much on finances lately. At all. No major problems, everything humming along, but nothing exciting to blog about either.

Before I blog, I like to catch up on a few of the blogs on this site. It seems like many of the "old-timers" that started on this site around the time I did are posting less, or not at all. Remember Retire@50? What happened to her? I used to really like reading her blog. And PricePlus was always one of my favorites. Even the ones that are still posting seem to be doing it less frequently. (Except Ima - I'm always inspired by you!). I check in on some newer blogs now and then, but I haven't been able to follow them as closely as I'd like to. I'm not giving up, though. I just need to figure out a way to do it.

OK, pity party over. Here are some financial happenings over the past few weeks: Went on the annual vacation to the Outerbanks. Always relatively cheap. We split a house with my brother's family, and eat in every night but 1, so it's not that expensive.

Daughter made a travelling soccer team. We're really excited for her, but the letter literally went like this: Dear Daughter, Congratulations on making the soccer team. Please forward $375 and a copy of your birth certificate no later than July 20th. I'm going to track how much I spend on all of this just to see what it runs me.

I need to go cook dinner, but it was great checking in...

Ha, I had to laugh, as we had the same thing happen to us sport-wise. We went from try-outs, to having my second daughter on the dance team and my third daughter on the cheerleading squad, with a demand of money, money, money, all within a week. The week before, I didn't, and I suspect my daughters didn't, even know they were trying out. Gosh, I guess you pay, and really, really hope they enjoy it! Best wishes to your daughter, and you, as you travel to all of those games!!

I, too, miss Retire@50 and Priceplus, and you. Financial 'holding patterns' are nice to be living in, but not the easiest to blog about, as I can attest to this (I mean, how many times can I write about hanging my laundry and using the crockpot, my word!) But I was excited to see your entry today, and I'll keep looking out for more. Best wishes!!

TinaPBeanie hasn't written for a while either. Many are on vacation I'd assume. Welcome back.

Welcome back! It is good to hear from you!

I think Priceplus accomplished his money goals, but he still lurks in the forums. I miss Retire@50's book reviews!

We pulled DD3 from select soccer. It was'nt worth the cost for the amount that they played her. We are going back to the fun (and cheaper) church ball!

Sigh...I know what you mean, but I'm as guilty as everyone else at times. I just went two weeks without an entry - a first since I started blogging nearly two years ago. This summer has just been crazy. We'll just have to be content with checking in when we can and catching up on who's here.
I miss lrjohnson's posts the most!!

Well I'm new and love it here. It's just one of the things that take time; small home craft business, 2 kids, dog, cat, husband, work part time...

I thought YOU were the new one Stick Out Tongue

I know what you mean - it takes a certain amount of stamina to blog, and you can only be so funny. Even Samuel Pepys (famous diarist of the 1660s) only did it for 10 years.

I vacationed on the Outer Banks years ago, and it's one of my happiest memories! I was on Nag's Head.
